Vitamin D3 & K2
Vitamin D3 & K2 are essential fat soluble vitamins needed to help support skin, joints, bone, heart, brain, hormone and immune health. Vitamin D3 and K2 work synergistically to support each other.
Vitamin D3 is responsible for helping calcium absorb from the gut into the blood stream and vitamin K2 helps direct that calcium into the bones and teeth preventing it calcifying in the arteries, heart or other organs.
Vitamin D3 can be made in our body from regular exposure to sunlight. However, as a result of covering up in the sun and more work taking place indoors we are seeing widespread deficiencies and insufficiencies in vitamin D3.
Supplementation of between 1000 - 2000iu daily has been shown to help maintain a healthy range of 25-hydroxy vitamin D. Vitamin K2 is found in animal foods like beef liver and also made in the gut from microbiota that convert vitamin K1 from leafy greens in vitamin K2.
However, due to reduced consumption of animal organ meat, leafy greens and poor microbiome health we are seeing increasing deficiencies.
Supplementing with 90 - 180 mcg of MK-7 (the most bioavailable form of K2) daily may help maintain a healthy range.
